Matchday Two of the Premier League saw Liverpool and Chelsea play out a controversial draw, Crystal Palace claim their first point until Patrick Vieira and Manchester City annihilate a woeful Arsenal.

Each week, Matchday FM pundit Chris Coughlin will bring you his Team of the Week from the top flight, as well as some honourable mentions who just missed the cut.

Goalkeeper: David De Gea - Manchester Utd

Only one winner here.

David De Gea put in one his best displays for some time at Molineux including a quite extraordinary save from Romain Saiss in the second half.

The Spaniard should've held his first save but showed superb reactions and athleticism to deny the Moroccan the opening goal of the game.

De Gea has been handed a chance to reclaim the number one spot at Old Trafford in the absence of Dean Henderson and if he keeps that form him, he's undroppable.

Right-back: Aaron Wan-Bissaka - Manchester United

In similar fashion to De Gea, Aaron Wan-Bissaka had to make my team as a result denying Wolves a certain opening goal in United's 1-0 win.

In an age of attacking full-backs, Wan-Bissaka has made a name for himself in his own third of the pitch, being dubbed "the spider" by the Red Devils' faithful.

Following Fred's woeful touch, the 23-year-old did superbly to track back and clear Trincao's shot off the line during a period where Ole Gunnar Solskjær's men were really holding on.

Centre-back: Cesar Azpilicueta - Chelsea

To call this man a Chelsea great is an understatement.

A snip at just £7m in 2012 following the club's first Champions' League title, the 32 still continues to perform with remarkable consistency and his display against Liverpool was no different.

He made the most clearances and tackle of any of his teams as the 10 men battled for a share of the points.

Centre-back: Virgil van Dijk - Liverpool

Liverpool against Chelsea was billed as a battle of Virgil van Dijk against Romelu Lukaku - a battle which the Dutchman won convincingly further highlighting his importance to the Reds since his return from injury.

Van Dijk's commanding display was highlighted as he regained possession more times than any of his Liverpool teammates while also completing 91% of his passes.

It's an old cliche of course but he feels as good as a new signing this season for Jurgen Klopp.

Left-back: Sergio Reguilon - Tottenham Hotspur

Nuno Espirito Santo's Tottenham have gone rather under the radar so far as they sit at the top of the early Premier League table.

Sergio Reguilon has been a big part of that after an indifferent season last year for the Spanish international.

He had a tough test up against the exciting and talent Ismaila Sarr but he dealt with the young Senegalese well to help secure Spurs' third win and clean sheet in a row.

Centre midfield: Allan - Everton

It's been an impressive start for Everton under Rafa Benitez with seven points out of nine so far.

Allan's partnership with Abdoulaye Doucoure has been a big part of that with the Brazilian contributing in both halves of the pitch in the win against Brighton.

He made five key tackles along with two clearances and one interception as part of his defensive duties. Going forward, he contributed 12 attacking third passes as well as the assist for Demarai Gray's opening strike.

Centre midfield: Conor Gallagher - Crystal Palace

One of the stars of the gameweek, Conor Gallagher shone as Crystal Palace twice fought back from behind to claim their first point of the season.

It was the quality of Gallagher's brace that was most impressive about the midfielder's display.

His first he finished from almost on the ground but his second is a goal of the month contender without debate. A lovely first touch gave him the space to get away from Craig Dawson with a superb Cruyff turn before finishing emphatically past Lukas Fabianski.

Centre midfield: Ilkay Gundogan

Last season was by-far-and-away the most prolific of Ilkay Gundogan's career and the German international got his first of the campaign with an early hammerblow to Mikel Arteta and Arsenal.

He peeled away to the back post to powerfully head in Gabriel Jesus' perfect cross, even though Bernt Leno got a decent hand to it.

In fact, Gundogan's form in 2021 has been so remarkable that only Harry Kane has scored more Premier League goals in this calendar year.

Right-wing: Gabriel Jesus - Manchester City

No this isn't a typo - Gabriel Jesus has to fit in on the right wing in order to find a place in City's team over the last few weeks but has done so to great effect.

The Brazilian gained two assists against Norwich the week before their win against Arsenal and managed another with his cross for Gundogan.

He later took advantage of City's man advantage following Granit Xhaka's brainless red card to score his first goal of the season after being handed the ball in front of an open goal by Jack Grealish.

Striker: Ferran Torres - Manchester City

What a performance by the Spaniard who is very quickly making a name for himself at the Etihad.

He showed predatory instincts to double City's lead after just 12 minutes from close range before setting up Rodri's long range strike and later adding City's fifth of the day with an excellent header.

Time will tell whether City were right not to bring in a striker this summer but if Torres can keep this form up for club and country, then Pep Guardiola may well have already had the man he was looking for at his disposal.

Left-wing: Demarai Gray - Everton

An absolute steal at £1.5m.

Demarai Gray has made a very promising start to his Goodison Park career with his goal at Brighton being his second in Everton colours so far.

The 25-year-old has always shown glimpses of quality without the consistency to go with it. Could he have finally found his home with the Toffees?

Honourable mentions

Goalkeeper: Edouard Mendy - Chelsea

The definition of solid if not spectacular from the Chelsea number one at Anfield.

He was under pressure in the second half as Liverpool resorted to long-range efforts but Mendy was equal to everything that came his way including good efforts from Fabinho and Andy Robertson.

Defender: Pontus Jansson - Brentford

Brentford have been excellent at the back so far this season but Pontus Jansson's contribution against Villa came at the other end.

The Swede provided a lovely flick for Ivan Toney's first Premier League goal and he will be a constant threat from set pieces for the Bees this season.

Midfielder: Emi Buendia - Aston Villa

Prior to his controversial involvement in Argentina's World Cup qualifier against Brazil, there was a huge moment for Villa's record signing Emi Buendia.

The creative midfield scored his first Villans goal with a lovely strike past David Raya from the edge of the box, only his second in the top flight.

Forward: Michail Antonio - West Ham

He had to feature somewhere didn't he?

I simply couldn't leave Michael Antonio out of this selection all together after he provided yet another goal and assist in West Ham's draw with Palace, the third game in a row so far this campaign in which he has managed both.

He's a man in remarkable form, we'll see if he can keep it up as European football comes to the London stadium.
