With a club set to be chosen for 'promotion' to Super League for 2021, there'll be a spot on offer in Rugby League's second tier.
The Rochdale Hornets are one of five clubs who have tabled a bid to to join the Championship for next season.
The Hornets were among the last two sides to be relegated to the third tier in 2019, and looked set to be among the promotion hopefuls before the season was brought to an abrupt end.
In the close season, they were also taken over by a consortium led by former Swinton Lions Chairman Andy Mazey, and he has plans to make the Hornets a force in the sport once again.
