Super League 2021 - Round 5 Predictions

Round 5 is upon us and it Kicks off on Thursday night with a very eye-catching encounter between 2nd place Wigan and 3rd place Hull. Both are unbeaten, with Hull a point behind the Warriors courtesy of that recent draw with Warrington. This one could give a real insight into whether FC are genuine contenders. Life doesn’t get easier for winless Leigh as they host leaders St Helens in their first game at the LSV back in the top flight.

Two other sides will look to get their first points this week, with the rest looking to either continue their upturn in form or regain it. The Matchday FM Rugby League trio of Chris, Kieran and Rob once again have had their say on what they think will happen in the latest set of 6 fixtures.

Wigan Warriors Vs Hull FC

Rob

Wigan are 100% this season and Hull FC are looking good, I think this will be close but how many times have Wigan pulled away from a team in the last 20 minutes of the game? For this game that time will be crucial and I can see the Cherry and White’s taking the two points.

Wakefield Trinity Vs Catalans Dragons

Chris

I was quietly impressed with Wakefield against Hull. It was their first 80 minutes performance which showed signs of real quality. Catalans suffered defeat last week and will be keen to bounce back. Trinity being back at Belle Vue will spare them on, but despite the improvement, I still think the French side have a little extra. I reckon it’ll be pretty close however.

Leigh Centurions Vs St Helens

Kieran

It’s been a baptism of fire for Leigh so far in the Super League and when you’re in need of your first win of the season St Helens are the last team you want to be playing. Big Saints win here.

Salford Red Devils Vs Castleford Tigers

Rob

Castleford will want to bounce back after their defeat to Wigan and I think this is the perfect opposition for them to do that against. Salford have been a bit rocky and Daryl Powell’s men have a point to prove.

Warrington Wolves Vs Hull KR

Chris

Both recorded impressive wins in round 4. KR have got better and better as the season has gone on, and the mix and youth and experience is showing signs of real development. Warrington, likewise, are improving and the win against Catalans was their best showing yet. I think this will be a good watch, but I think the Wolves just have that extra quality to see them home by around two to three tries.

Huddersfield Giants Vs Leeds Rhinos

Kieran

Leeds haven’t hit the heights that I expected from them so far this season, while Huddersfield’s transition under Ian Watson hasn’t got off to the best of starts. Having said that, the Giants have started to show signs of improvement in recent weeks and for that reason I fancy them to cause a bit of an upset here.
